Trappers Tents
Getting Here

Our beautiful Sioux canvas tipis are hand-painted with native-style designs. Each tipi sits on its own site, surrounded by forest and connected by a winding road to other sites. Guests bring their own bedding and camping supplies or rent from us. Tipis are available mid June to mid September.

Inside the Tipi

  • Wooden floor
  • Wood-frame beds with foam mattresses sealed in vinyl
  • Small kerosene heater and lantern (we supply the fuel)

Outside the Tipi

  • Picnic table
  • Fire pit with a half-grill for cooking (we suggest aluminium foil or an old frypan for use on the grill)

Large Tipis, each with one double bed and two single beds (comfortably sleeps four)

Small Tipis, each with two single beds (comfortaby sleeps two)

QUIET HOURS - 10:30 pm to 8 am. Music and Generators must be turned OFF.

Voices must be kept low as sound carries very easily.

Daytime: Music played during the day must be confined to your campsite only.
Generators: must be run sparingly & should be of the "quiet" variety.

This is a FAMILY campground: no "partying" or offensive behaviour is permitted at any time.

All units are spaced well apart with trees between them.

Recommended to Bring

  • Flashlights
  • warm clothes (a jogging suit and socks are great for sleeping)
  • warm sleeping bags & extra blankets - the heater just takes off the chill
  • rain gear
  • food, dishes & cooking equipment to use over a fire
  • a cooler (we sell ice)
  • tarps (for shade or rain protection)
  • an axe
  • matches
  • an outside lantern if you want one
  • water jug & dish basin in which to wash dishes at your campsite; no washing dishes in the washrooms or at the well sites for sanitary reasons
  • campstoves are handy if you don't cook over the campfire
  • lawn chairs

- Strongly recommended, especially for weekends & long weekends. All sites are open for booking; however, we do take drop-ins if we have room. All our reservations are prepaid with cancellation charges after booking.

- No water at your site. However, there are 3 wells - two of these are hand pumps. One is a hydrant located hehind the Trading Post that supplies drinking water. It has a hose with which you can fill a water container or an RV.

Dump Station

- As we are so close to the river, we do NOT have a station. The closest ones (free) are: Barrier Information Center (10 minutes north on HWY 40) and Mt. Kidd (10 minutes south on HWY 40).

- No power at your site; however, there is electricity in the washrooms at the Trading Post.

- Available for purchase at the Trading Post; you are most welcome to bring your own (as long as it isn't from British Columbia - sorry!) It is illegal to collect deadwood in Kananaskis so you must either bring your own firewood or buy it here.

- Accepted with a $2.00 charge per pet/per night. Please respect campers who prefer not to have pets around. Do not leave pets alone at the site when you go hiking or driving - a barking dog can ruin a pleasant afternoon for your neighbours. Pets must always be leashed, well behaved, not taken into the buildings and picked up after.

Check-In Time - between 2:30 pm and 8 pm

Please call if you will be late. We recommend arriving by suppertime, if possible, as this gives you time to set up in daylight, pick up your camping supply rentals, if booked, at the Trading Post, and ask any questions you may have of the staff there (e.g., lighting your heater), before closing time.

Check-Out Time - by 11 am for Tipis & Trapper's Tents

We greatly appreciate guests respecting checkout time as our cleaning staff have a lot to do in order to have the sites ready for new check-ins at 2:30pm.
